How to Vote
If you have received a vote-by-mail kit and do not require changes, you have until October 13 to return the ballot by mail to ensure delivery for Election Day. If you have not received a ballot by October 14, please contact the Municipal Office.
After October 13, voters can drop off their ballots in person at any of the following locations.
- Municipal Office anytime during regular business hours (Mon. to Fri. from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m)
- Municipal Office during extended business hours.
- Drop-off stations in Lavigne, Field, River Valley, and Verner, during designated services hours.

Am I eligible to vote?
To vote in a municipal election, you must be:
- A Canadian citizen (temporary and permanent residents cannot vote);
- 18 years of age or older;
- A resident of the Municipality of West Nipissing, or the owner or tenant of property in the municipality, or the spouse of the owner or tenant who does not live elsewhere in the municipality; and
- Not prohibited from voting under any law.
To vote in elections for a school board trustee, you must:
- Meet the criteria above; and
- Be a supporter of the school board (English, French, Public or Catholic) for which the election is being held.
You may vote only once in a municipal election. If you own or rent more than one property, you must vote where you live.
Am I on the Voter’s List?
Anyone who has moved or severed their land since the last municipal election should verify their information as soon as possible. Landlords are encouraged to provide the Municipality with updated tenant information as soon as possible.
The Voters’ List changes will be finalized on September 12, 2022 in preparation for the mail-out of Voting Kits.
If you are an Ontario resident over the age of 18, you should confirm that you are on the voters’ list. Verify that your information is correct and if necessary, change your school support for electoral purposes or add additional names of those who live at your address.
Updating this information will help ensure that municipal voters’ lists are accurate and up to date in preparation for the 2022 municipal and school board elections.
Voters can update their information by contacting the Municipality of West Nipissing or by verifying their status on the Voter Registration service. To update school support information, visit MPAC’s online School Support tool.
Where and how do I vote?
Vote by Mail Procedure
The Municipality will mail a Vote-by-Mail Kit to every qualified elector which must be returned to the Municipality by October 24, 2022, at 8:00 p.m.
The final day to mail back the yellow Return Voting Envelope is October 13, 2022. Following this date, voters are required to deposit their Return Voting Envelope at a Ballot Return Station (see locations and time below).
Ballot Return Stations and Extended Business Hours
Ballots can be returned the Municipal Office anytime during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and during extended business hours listed below. The Municipal Office is the only designated location to register to vote, make changes to your voter information, and obtain a new or a replacement ballot.
